"Surface configuration Modelin" and "Organic form modeling"

I have been working with “Organic form modeling” described in “Chapter 8, and 9”.

When I discussed with Mr. Yamada about the "Organic form modeling", I had some idea about "Organic form modeling" and it was like, "Building Model with "Organic form modeling" manner till some stage then after building the outline of shape then I may change to "Surface configuration Modeling".
However, Mr. Yamada wanted to know the how "3D modeling beginner who does not know modeling expertise" could obtain 3D form shape and its limit through "Organic form modeling". Then I tried "Organic form modeling" with the 3D form modeling with the method of "control point editing" as much as possible.
Designer usually starts hand drawing sketch from the first, then work with 3D digital tools, however I started 2 dimensional drawing by Rhino from the beginning,.
Once major specification of car, wheel base, body height and width, tread is defined, I started drawing directly on Rhino, then define 2 dimensional sketch from Top, Front, Right View.
Sometime, I drew free hand sketch to build up my style concept in my brain, then there is no finished hand drawing.
One of the most interesting experience ofb "Organic form modeling" is, I can see the shape is building up interactively.
When I pull "control point of" of surface, I feel small "Sense of accomplishment" that I am building up the 3D shape toward according to my conceptual image.
I think this modeling manner could satisfy the first aim of building 3D model for design review.
If my goal is to check the exterior of car Style, such a detail work may not be necessary.
Also at this case, I made body from just one surface and same process with green house.
You may create several simple surfaces, then works with "editing control points".
Probably it is the usual way.
Since "Organic form modeling" is powerful solution for evaluating conceptual modeling, but Regarding interior, I believe "Organic form modeling" satisfy both conceptual modeling and engineering model.

Mr. Yamada and I discussed that we should show the engineering model by “Surface configuration Modeling” to “Rhino 3D modeling reader”after series was done. Then I would like to show the “Surface configuration Modeling” example based on the conceptual model. We have already learned how to model it, we may model based on from Chapter 1 to Chapter 7. We already had basic shape at Chapter 8 then we may research this model at first.

We had already "Mass in 3 dimension", then we may consider character curves which are very important.
Creating basic 3 dimensional wire frame curves at first.
Here, I evaluated the first model then define curves to make wind shield more wider.
Regarding front fender, suppress the bulge but emphasize the upper portion.

Once creating basic wire frame curves, modify curves as an ideal shape as a character curve for "Surface configuration Modeling".

Creating surface by those curves.

Check the quality of surface with creating zebra on the surface by "Zebra command".

Check the quality of surface with creating high light on the surface by "Emap command".

Check the first Model by "Surface configuration" from various views and refine character curves considering the balance of shape.
Be aware that the character curves are connected at the end point.

Show the curvature graph of curves and to check the curve is smoothly changed mathematically.
I made all important character curves with 5 degree.
Rhino creates surface with 3 degree except "EdgeSrf command" however surface from higher degree curves may create more high quality surface.

Check the quality of surface again with "zebra" and "Emap" and so on.
We can recognize continuity of surfaces at the head light portion is well managed.

Check the model from all angle, we can recognize some bad continuity at the "body side" and "rear body", however this portion will be filleted later.

Model "Wind shield" as same manner.
Wheel arch and detail modeling will be added to this model later, but I spent 90% of time of whole modeling at this stage.
Basic shape(styling) is the most important, I modeled and re-modeled again and again until my car shape of image has been created in Rhino.

Modeling wheel arch
See the Chapter 6 and create wheel arch.
In this model, I used surface body side for upper portion of front wheel arch, then create lower portion of wheel arch to make blended to upper portion.

Working with details, light, grill, exhaust pipes, diffuser and so on.
Adding Number plate makes model like a car.
Parting hood, door, trunk makes model like a real. It is very fun working.
